Sometimes it may seem harmless, but often it can have a significant impact. Some related conditions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Various dental problems:<\/strong>&nbsp;flat, broken, and loose teeth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tooth pain and sensitivity<\/strong>: due to tooth wear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jaw pain and discomfort:<\/strong>&nbsp;tiredness and pain in the jaw.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Headaches<\/strong>: pain that can start in the ear, temple, or forehead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sleep problems:<\/strong> Due to constant rubbing and tension in the jaw.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>As we saw, it\u2019s the gateway to many discomforts that may seem invisible, but sooner or later they show up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Causes of bruxism<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The exact cause of bruxism is not fully understood. It may be due to a combination of physical, mental health, and genetic factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>daytime bruxism<\/strong>&nbsp;It may be due to emotions such as anxiety, stress, anger, frustration, or tension. Bruxism can also be the body\u2019s way of coping or a habit when you\u2019re focused or thinking deeply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>nocturnal bruxism<\/strong>&nbsp;It can be a chewing activity related to sleep, with brief interruptions during the night.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We may not know for sure what causes it, but we do know risk factors that can worsen bruxism:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stress:<\/strong>&nbsp;Stress or anxiety can lead to grinding and clenching the teeth. Anger and frustration can also contribute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Age:<\/strong>&nbsp;Bruxism is common in young children, but it usually goes away in adulthood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personality type:<\/strong>&nbsp;Having an aggressive, competitive, or hyperactive personality may increase the risk of developing bruxism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Oral habits during the day:<\/strong>&nbsp;Biting your lips, tongue, or cheeks, or chewing gum for long periods can increase the risk of daytime bruxism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medicines and other substances:<\/strong>&nbsp;Smoking tobacco or consuming caffeine or alcohol can increase the risk of bruxism. The same applies to using recreational drugs or medications not approved by a healthcare professional.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Family members with bruxism:<\/strong>&nbsp;Nighttime bruxism often runs in families. If you have bruxism, it\u2019s possible that other family members also have it or have a history of it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other conditions:<\/strong>&nbsp;Bruxism can be related to certain mental health conditions and medical illnesses.
